In order to be admitted as a massage therapist in New York State, you must: have a good sense of morality; be at least 18 years of age; satisfy training and exam qualifications; have successfully passed a course in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within three years of admission.

They may not run a privately owned clinic if they are in possession of a temporary license. They must be hired by a certified massage therapist or by a body authorised to perform massage treatment, who will commission a certified massage therapist to do so.
