The Contemporary Cultural ceramics investigates the transformation of ceramic from functionally to expressively form. After the Second Worid War, the ceramic industry underwent a dramatic change, from merely functionally to artistically. The Contemporary Sculptural ceramic explores this transformation from conventional potters to sculptures, expressing humour, abstract and even sociopolitical comment.

Included in the exhibition are works by Henry Varnum Poor - the first of the pioneers of this trend and one of the first to make use of this media in an expressionist way - and twenty-first-generation ceramicsists. After the purchase of the James Vanderpoel House in 1925, the Columbia County Historical Society spend several years to restore the federalist building and many of the objects it contains.

In the 1930' and 1950' the building became a centre of historical interest and showed a number of installation of artefacts from different eras of the valley's past. Now that the building has recently been opened to the general public, the association is returning to this traditional style with the "Study of Style" exhibit. The exhibit features Hudson Valley furnishings (originally shown in 1937), paperweight decorations (from an exhibit in 1947), and contemporary US artwork (1955).

For the layperson, the "German Pure Bones Law" defines the components that can be found in beers. Now, as US-Cuba ties seem to be getting better, the Americans are getting Cuba' s temperature. This group - whose members come directly from the islands and are among the best interpreters - presents an evenings programme of Cuba' music.
