Who is Hudson Valley Farm Hub?
Hudson Valley Farms Hub is a non-profit centre for sustainable farm management on 1,255 hectares of world-class arable land in Hurley, NY. Providing expert trainings for farmers, organizing and supporting agronomic research, demonstrating new agronomic technology and serving as an education source for progress in the fields of nutrition and agronomy. An nationalised system of distributing groceries is displacing small and medium-sized enterprises from the supermarkets.
Sharp soil price and cost of agricultural machinery and facilities make agricultural property difficult, if not prohibitively expensive. A number of these have led to a tragic decline in arable lands in the Hudson Valley over the course of a population. The Hudson Valley is well equipped to harness the dynamism of the nascent rural world, with strong roots in agricultural tradition, outstanding soil, young farmers looking for a career in agriculture and close to New York City's market.
Farms Hub began working with Hudson Valley growers and partners to help pinpoint obstacles and ways to build a robust diet. There was a clear commitment to a non-profit farming hub as a centre for these needs. The quest for property brought to Gill Ranch, which due to its key position, the large number of hectares, the excellent soils and the comprehensive agricultural facilities was the perfect place to make the mission of the Ranch Hub a real one.
Established in 2013, the Hub began the transformation from a privately owned agricultural business to a non-profit-organisation. While many of the initial employees remain active, the Hub continues to expand its group of consultants and alliances. Through the pooling of local ressources, individuals and organisations, the Ranch Hub is developing programs to leverage the strength of the area for a more robust and sustainable fut.
