Barlow and Hudson NY hotels, accommodation in Hudson,

Hudson is a small town that makes the visitor ask for little. This, along with the wealth of historical architectural treasures and the expansive views of the Hudson River with the Catskills behind it, make the town almost a hallucinating urban landscape. We simply did not have enough accommodations.

There were only a series of sleek beds and breakfast that were filling up at an incredible rate, and an old motel and lodging whose best day was so far behind them that they were often not talked about in courteous conversations. For many years after Hudson's revival, there was still no place that met his needs and sensitivity.

Barlow has been rescued and the Barlow inaugurated last June, and the moment has come. Located in the centre of Hudson's 542 Warren Street commercial area, the 16 room Barlow provides the comfort, stylish and private atmosphere you would expect from a contemporary executive resort while conveying the personality and feeling of this unmatched town.

Owner Russell Gibson and Duncan Calhoun purchased a house in Hudson back in 1992 after Calhoun came across it when he tried to find a yacht sales, and five years ago they opened their own B&B next-door, the Croff House. It was a combination of their experiences and their passion for the city that led to a mouth-watering establishment that blends in so well with the area.

Comfy as the hostel is, Gibson and Calhoun are hoping that visitors will see it as an expansion of the city itself. "We are a major europe-wide fashion house," Gibson explains. "We want you to see the whole place, and we want you to leave the place and see Hudson." For this purpose, The Barlow has teamed up with a dozen companies to develop the Privilege Partner programme for its clients.

Guests who show their room keys electronically in one of the participant stores, dining rooms or spa facilities, all within easy walk of each other, will be eligible for a rebate. "Our cottage turned into our full-time home and a new life," says Calhoun. Both Gibson and Calhoun say they would not be suprised if a hotelier were their neighbour that very soon that night.
