The New York State Museum
At the heart of the New York State Museum's fire brigade collections are two hundred years of fire fighting devices. The most important kinds of fire extinguishing appliances are on show, including manual machines, steams, power pumps, a trolley, a trolley and an air and sea towers. Several of the tracks are represented by the brands of major New York device makers such as Lysander Button, Clapp and Jones and the American-LaFrance Company.
Others are appreciated as fire brigade volunteers and payers throughout the state, from Perrysburg to New York City. Most of the fire fighting equipment is on show in the fire brigade hall, while most of the museum's other parts of the fire brigade collections are in-stock. Several 19th c. printings show the character of historic fire fighting.
Helmet, harnesses, trumpets, pails, whistles, ladders, firefighters, fire alarms, insignia and conventional tapes make up most of the rest of the equipment.
Fire Zone is New York City's state-of-the-art fire protection training school. In the fire zone you can get on a real fire engine, try on fire equipment, see a fireman and see how to creep through a smoke-filled passage. With a multitude of practical exhibitions and multi-media demonstrations, the fire zone offers the visitor an insight into what happens in the event of a fire, as well as a simulation of the fire world.
The core of the Fire Zone is the groundbreaking fire simulation system, which uses visual aids and multi-media to inform the visitor about fire protection and behaviour in the event of a fire. Firefighters and moderators will lead the audience through the animated presentations. People are leaving the fire zone with the necessary material to remove fire risks in their own houses and to build escapes for their family.
FDNY Fire Zone is in the Rockefeller Center, next to the Radio City Music Hall. The FDNY Fire Zone is free of charge. FDNY Fire Zone is fully handicapped access.
