Editorial note: This article was initially in the past, but we have revised all our coverage for autumn 2016! For me, this autumn is about being outside every last second. Drumroll, please.... here are 50 ways to pass your case. You can find a lot of autumn leaves in our courtyards. Take the children to camp in the lovely Catskills, just two hrs away.
Autumn is actually the best season for camping - cosy temporary workers, no beetles, colourful landscape. The Kaaterskill Falls is a great autumn walk for older children to the biggest waterfalls in New York State. Visit Ridge Hill's Legoland for Ninjago Weekends on September 24th and 25th or Brick-or-Treat every October end.
Enjoy an afternoons at a traditional mass, party or Carneval. Upcoming: Fieldhome Fall in Cortlandt Manor (24 September), Fleetwood Autumnal ('28 September-'2 October), Columbus Day in Eastchester ('7 October) and the Horse Show and County Trade Show in Peekskill (8-9 October). See Sesame Street at Westchester County Center, September 24th and 25th.
Drive into town to visit the cloister, take a trip on Staten Island Ferry or see a show at the New Victory Theatre. Enroll for paintings or digitally shot work at Pelham Arts Center, a writing course at Hudson Valley Writer's Center, a sound studio at Callay Arts Center, or whatever else you'd like to try.
You can also take a joint course at the Westchester School. Attend a Hudson Valley pumpkins patches in October. Frighten the children at New York's Botanical Garden's Haunted Pumpskin Garden, which runs until October 30 every day. Ride down a grass-covered mound at New Windsor's New Windsor Station King Art Center.
It' beautiful in autumn. Take your little ones to the Caramoor Center in Katonah on Friday 28 October to hear some creepy but not too creepy folk tales from around the globe. Children are urged to come in costumes. Hike the Hudson off a Wave Hill bluff in the Bronx.
Then take the babies to the children's room in the Hastings Library. As they are reading, the childrens are staring out the window onto the stream and breathing out. "Then help your kid make s' mores and tell scary tales (well, the G-rated version!). Built your own bird scarer at Scarsdale's Greenburgh Nature Center on October 16.
We have a diary full of opportunities in the shire. Organise an autumn treasure hunting in your garden or in a nearby garden. but you could just put a few things on a little bit of a little bit of paper and just have your children go out and find things.
You might give your children a few nibbles if they behave. Go for a bicycle tour with the children, the support rollers and so on. The Bronx River Parkway runs until late September, and we have simple cycling trails for Thornwood and the North County Trailway. Make one for your children.
