State of Clerk: 2017 Press Release

Today POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK- Dutchess County Clerk Brad Kendall and Dutchess County Historian William P. Tatum III today released another 25,000 pages of eighteenth century document now available through the Online Ancient Document Portal. The New York State Archives financed the digitization through the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF).

For a long period, this archive was the mainstay of the county's archives. It consisted of legal documents that began in 1721 and lasted until 1789. Further upgrades will expand the library. Before digitisation, the Antikensammlung was a real upheaval.

Scientists who wanted to see the collections had restricted opportunities either to struggle with used microfilms or to travel to Poughkeepsie to get them. There are several registers on the collections, the oldest of which date from the 1950', when the former president of Vassar College, Henry Noble MacCracken, first studied the series.

Organised by the name of the persons who appear in the various document types, these indexes allowed restricted acces to the library. Designed by the Dutchess County Office of Central and Information Services (OCIS), the Dutchess County Office of Central and Information Services (OCIS) provides high-resolution full-color scanning that scientists can zoom in and out to work with. Pictures and meta data saved in this system also act as a continuous multi redundant backup of the source media.
