The top 5 of the best hikes near New York City
I' m so happy to be in New York town. Música, civilization and art.... this astonishing town has everything you could wish for. Whilst the town fulfils so many of my wishes, the one thing it doesn't have is the mountans. If I can't do a walk or trailer run in the hills at least once a weeks, I start going a little weird.
NYC has few walking opportunities, but luckily there are a number of great walks nearby. Below are my top 5 favourite walks near New York City: The Giant Stairs is one of my favourite routes in the north-east of the United States. It' 5 leagues long, it's one of the best places to hike in New Jersey.
New York City is only 45 minutes by car from the city. The Giant Stairs are one of the best walking paths near NYC, not only because of their immediate vicinity, but also because of their varied scenery. More information about the walk can be found on the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference website:
If I want to hike in New York, Bear Mountain State is one of my favourite places. The Bear Mountain State is on the western shore of the Hudson River in New York State. It consists of over 5,000 hectares and 3 mountains: Dunderberg Mountain, Bear Mountain, Dunderberg Mountain et Westmountain.
The Appalachian Way is also 6 mile long in Bear Mountain State Park, making it one of New York's most sought after walking spots. With over 50 walks of 235 Leagues in Bear Mountain State Park, one of my favorites is the 1777E Track.
It was shut down in the 1960s and many of its houses were demolished, but you can still see the remains and photos of Doodletown as you walk along the path. Combining story and adventures at Bear Mountain State Reserve makes this NY walking area a great choice.
More information about the Bear Mountain State Park can be found under the link: About 90 min from New York City was the Delaware Water Gap. Delaware Water Gap is a section of the Delaware River that runs through a crest of the Appalachian Mountains on the Pennsylvania New Jersey/Boarder.
The Appalachian Trail is 28 leagues long and leads through the Delaware Water Gap. Mt Tammany is one of my favourite walks on the Delaware Water Gap. The 3.5 mile long bend provides diverse scenic area. Mt Tammany is a great choice for walking near NYC and the area also provides a variety of extra out-door pursuits such as boating and camp.
More information about the walk can be found on the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference website: The Ramapo Valley County Reserve is one of my favourite walks near NYC, which happens to be less than an hours walk from downtown Manhattan. The Ramapo Valley County Reservation is a 4,000 hectare large community gardens with nearly 20 mile walking path.
There are many possibilities for walkers, from well-maintained low paths to jagged crags. I' m looking for wild animals while walking in the parks because I found queues there. In addition, the reserve was shut down for several moths in 2015 forbears.
Luckily, there are always several hundred hikers here on the weekend, so you are seldom alone. When you want to make various daily hikes near NYC Ramapo Valley County Reservation is a great choice. More information about the walk can be found on the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference website:
A lot of folks don't know that there are so many great walking opportunities near New York City. Situated 90 mile from Times Square, the Labyrinth is one of the best walks near NYC and also one of the most amazing walks I've done in the United States.
Situated at the gorgeous Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York, it is a jewel of a path that starts near the lakeside and will force you to sail through huge rocks, wood steps and caverns. The labyrinth offers kilometres of footpaths on the site for those looking for more adventures.
Please be aware that you must make a visitor charge to go to the Mohonk Mountain House site for the entire period. But it is 100% rewarding, because nowhere else can you find a way like the labyrinth. The Mohonk Mountain House area is also breathtaking, which contributes to the overall enjoyment.
More information can be found on the Mohonk Mountain House website at: Luckily, if you have a serious case of the travelling beetle and are living or working in New York City, there are a number of possibilities nearby. I' m looking forward to seeing you on the way.
