Panoramas: Middle Valley
Poughkeepsie's Riverfront Park

The largest city in the Mid-Hudson region, Poughkeepsie has been tied to its riverfront location from the start. First as a major port of call between New York City and Albany, then as a major industrial force in its own right, Poughkeepsie has always looked down to the river as its Front Door.

As with most river towns, Poughkeepsie's riverfront became a rundown and unappealing location, lined with factories, crumbling warehouses and commercial structures. But Poughkeepsie has resurrected its access to the Hudson, creating a friendly public park giving visitors the chance to walk down to the banks and enjoy the views.

Community festivals, art fairs and other public activities fill the park on a regular basis and the sloop Clearwater makes the Poughkeepsie riverfront one of its primary points of departure. Poughkeepsie's Riverfront Park is a vital, alive and significant part of this city's life.
